This weekend, starting today:  Join the Great Backyard Bird Count

Since so many of us consider Brightwood Park a sanctuary in our own back yards, why not join the fun! Check out how to join on the link:

https://www.birdcount.org/
There are over 💯bird species in Brightwood Park! We encourage you to grab your camera, bundle up and head to the park to see how many different birds you can spot. Send us your pics and tag us with #birdsofbrightwoodpark and #featheredfriendsofbrightwoodpark. Have fun! 🦆🦉🐤🐦 📸
Remember: Friday through Monday, Feb. 12–15. Tell us what you see and have fun while helping advance the study of birds.

Lawn Signs - replacement or new

Apparently not everyone is a Friend of Brightwood! Many of our lawn signs have been stolen from front yards in recent weeks.

If you'd like a new sign, or a replacement (replacements are free of charge), visit our Shop!  Or just send an email to friendsofbrightwoodpark@gmail.com  with the information and a check for $12.

Thanks for your continued support!

Don't Miss Doug Tallamy's Presentation on Biodiversity and replacing Invasive Species

New! Phil and JPL recommend an informative presentation on invasive species.  Learn more about biodiversity and how you can make difference by the way you plant your yard.

The hens are sure not as colorful as the drakes are, but today’s shot of a mallard hen in the park showed the girls still have their own charm for the camera

Preserve a Quiet Walk in the Park

The proposal to permit and encourage mountain bike racing at Brightwood will negatively impact the ecology of the the park and ruin the experience for birders and walkers.  See more information here.   And download the Save Our Sanctuary flyer!
Please sign this petition to protect the park.   (But note that any monies donated do not go to Brightwood park)

HISTORY

Brightwood Park was acquired by the town in the 1960's with Green Acres grants. Later, in the 1980's, Green Acres funding was used to dredge the pond and develop a picnic area and path system.   more

INVASIVE SPECIES

Browsing deer destroy native plants and allow invasive species to expand rapidly.  This "benign neglect" leads to a loss of biodiversity and habitat for native plants and animals.  The park is at a critical stage now.  more
