A WORD ABOUT WINTER
Now the frost is on the pane, Rugs upon the floor again. Now the screens are in the cellar, Now the student cons the speller, Lengthy summer noon is gone. Twilight treads the heels of dawn Round-eyed sun is now a squinter, Tiptoe breeze a panting sprinter. Every cloud a blizzard hinter, Squirrel on the snow a printer, Rain spout sprouteth icy splinter, Willy-nilly this is winter. |

Even More Reasons to Visit Brightwood Park in the Wintertime
|
|
🌲 1. Peaceful Winter Nature Walks In winter, Brightwood Park's wooded trails and quiet forest paths become especially serene — perfect for slowing down and enjoying the crisp air and snowy scenery.
❄️ 2. Snow-Covered Trails & Scenery When it snows, the woodlands, pond, and unpaved trails transform into a picturesque winter wonderland — great for photography and peaceful walks. 🐦 3. Winter Birdwatching! Many bird species (including winter visitors like ducks and waterfowl and woodpeckers) can be spotted in the Park's habitats around the pond — an excellent, quiet spot for birders. 👣 4. Healthful Outdoor Exercise Walking or hiking the nearly 1.6 miles of trail in the brisk winter air is invigorating and a great way to stay active and healthy. 📷 5. Great for Nature Photography The Park's frozen ponds, bare trees, and frosty ground offer dramatic winter photo opportunities — ideal for hobbyists and social media shots. 🧘♀️ 6. Quiet Reflection & Stress Relief The peacefulness of a winter visit helps you unplug from everyday stress and connect with nature's quieter season. 🪵 7. Observe Natural Streams & Wildlife Tracks With fallen leaves gone, animal tracks in snow or mud are easier to spot. Look for signs of deer, squirrels, and other wildlife. 🪩 8. Learning & Nature Programs Local recreation programs sometimes run winter nature classes or walks at the Park — fun for kids and adults alike (check Westfield's recreation calendar for current offerings). 🐶 9. Dog-Friendly Outdoor Fun If you bring your dog (on a leash), winter walks through the woods are a great way to get exercise for both of you in a quieter, cooler setting. 🧑🤝🧑 10. Community & Volunteer Events Even in winter, Friends of Brightwood Park hosts volunteers and community meet-ups — a great way to get involved and learn about local conservation efforts. |
