Julia and Durward Dunham were one of four white couples who lived at the site of the future Park.
Durward was born in Westfield in 1871. Julia’s family moved to Westfield from Pennsylvania before 1900. Julia and Durward were married in 1899 and lived with Julia’s family until her mother died in 1909. Soon after, Julia purchased 120 Netherwood Avenue where she and Durward, a painter/decorator, would live for the several decades. They had no children. Julia died in 1939, Durward died in 1949. Their home and another lot were sold in 1949 for $7,500, and to the Town of Westfield in 1965. |
