Brightwood Kids

Spring Recap:
The Education Committee conducted their favorite class last June, Dirt + Water = Mud. Once again there was a full class of children enjoying learning about soil and water through intellectual and physical exploration. It is always fun to get DIRTy!

Nature classes will be held each month this fall for children 2-4 years old with a parent in the morning and 4-8 years old in the afternoon. Children will learn about the natural world through literature, art, sensory experiences and walks through Brightwood Park.

Exciting things are coming in 2024 for the Kids of Brightwood, right here in the Park!

Be sure to keep an eye on the Westfield Recreation Department sign up page!!

FOBP Nature Classes

September 19- Animals in Brightwood Park
2 sessions- 10:00-10:45- 3-5year olds, 3:45-4:45- 4-8year olds

Who lives in Brightwood Park? What do their homes look like? How do we know they are there?
Find out who lives there and what does their trail of footprints look like.
Choose a favorite animal and help us make a song to sing to our woodland friends.

October 17- Birds Are Special
2 sessions- 10:00-10:45- 3-5year olds, 3:45-4:45- 4-8year olds

Birds live all around us; in our yards, in town, in the woods and in our parks.
Learn to recognize a bird by its feathers, shape, size, color, and habitat.
What birds do we see in Brightwood park? Where do they live? Let’s walk through the park and find birds by listening and looking.

October 26- Jack O Lantern Trail, Rain date, Oct. 27

November 21- Is It a Bird, a Plane? No, It’s a Cloud!
Look up and learn about what we see in the sky.
Clouds are fun to observe and help us learn about weather, climate, and the Earth.
Watching clouds helps us to slow down and observe. Let’s lie down and look up!

December-  (date depends on Union Cty hunt dates) - Wild Art in the Park

Is art only made with paints, markers and paper?
Art is all around us and we can find great examples in the bare winter branches in Brightwood Park.
Let’s look for art in the park and create some art of our own with natural objects.

Friends of Brightwood Park welcomes children to the park
to learn about nature!

Brightwood Park is a great place for children to learn about nature.
FOBP has developed a Nature Detectives program for children aged 2 through 8 to inspire a love of the environment.
They learn about the animals and habitats of Brightwood Park through literature, music, movement and exploration of the park.

Our quarterly Brightwood Kids newsletters offer deeper insights into the nature found in the park.
