Gardens Are Planted!

5/16/2022

Our  demonstration gardens are planted after months of planning and preparations!

Rob Lombard single handedly built protective fencing and prepared the ground months ago.  Green Team member and landscape architect, Bianca Wright selected the native plants to be included for shoreline, forest understory and landscape habitats.

Volunteers planted the three enclosures with plugs purchased from the Great Swamp Watershed Association Native Plants Sale.  Now, we water and excitedly wait.  It may take a year or two for the plants to fully develop, but patience is a virtue.  We invite you to follow our progress.

Our hope for these gardens is two-fold from an educational perspective.  First, these gardens are designed to show what healthy ecosystems in those three environments would look like.  Second, we hope to inspire visitors to plant native in their own gardens.

For more immediate gratification, we have also planted some pollinator gardens from seeds.  We were thrilled to have two girl scouts join our efforts in planting Milkweed, Partridge Pea, Indian Blanket, Cosmos, and Zinnia.  Look to see fast growing flowering plants in several locations in the park.

If you would like to help with our gardens, please email FriendsOfBrightwoodPark@gmail.com.
