Spring Awakening

As Spring is entering the third month, even the deep-sleeper plants and animals are waking up to join the celebrating party.  Many species of plants burst out beautiful flowers and new leaves, like a firework show at night.  Watching the plants reminds me of my childhood days accompanying my mom in the hospital and walking by the baby room, watching my new-born sister along with many other cute babies. I could never forget the joy and hope surfacing in my heart at that moment.  Like in those days, while I walked in Brightwood Park, I love to stare at the flowers, big and small ones, and those on the ground or on the trees. 

The squirrels and the chipmunks seem to be getting used to my visits, and no longer hurry to hide or run away.  One of them even gave me a timid smile.  A tree near the meadow apparently became the home of a family of squirrels, with front and back entrances. 

A herd of turtles were having a relaxing time on a deserted car tire in the small pond.  One of them appeared to be practicing Chinese Kung Fu by lifting one of its four legs.  The guy was concentrating and did not respond to my question whether he speaks Mandarin or Cantonese.

Two mallard duck brothers were hanging out together but had different personalities.  One loved to nap, and the other was more interested in food and constantly scanning the water in front of him.

The robins I recently saw mostly had big bellies, male or female.  I finally spotted a male with shape and appearance qualified for going to Hollywood, and could not wait to take a picture of him. 

The trail resurfacing project finally was complete last week.  Thanks to Rob's leadership and his coordination with the township for material supply.  The trail circling the big pond now has a fresh look.    Thanks again to the neighbors who participated and made a difference!
